THEN... In 1926, young entrepreneur and Holliston native Paul Jensen knew he wanted to serve his community, and discovered he could do this by helping his neighbors buy exactly the type of insurance they each needed to keep their possessions and families protected and secure. He joined Marchant Agency and soon thereafter bought the company. Paul's only "employee" was his wife Emma. They didn't have many clients, and The Great Depression—followed closely by the war—kept company growth to a minimum. The next employee wasn't added for more than 20 years. Did you know that "back then" agencies "specialized" in specific types of insurance: you might have six or more separate policies with as many agencies just to cover such basics as collision, liability, injury, etc.! After many years of selflessly serving the Holliston community (working long six-day work weeks and even running a friend's agency while he served the country) Paul and Emma were ready to retire. In 1973, with plans to eventually sell the business to him, the Jensens hired Bill Sheehan to take over management. ...AND NOW Bill Sheehan is still the current owner of Jensen Sheehan, and has been since 1977. Bill shares Paul Jensen's love of community, and sees his customers as part of his extended family. He is always ready and willing to help. Jensen Sheehan is staffed with folks who were carefully chosen for their competence, their desire to help, and their own devotion to serving the community. They want to talk with you, which is why you'll get one of these friendly people instead of an answering machine: Sharon has been serving at Jensen Sheehan for 19 years. That's unusual these days, so you know she loves what she's doing, and where she's doing it! Eunice has been part of the team for 12 years. Even with almost a decade of experience and knowledge, she learns something new everyday. (Do you know what she likes best about her job? Knowing that she's helping the customer with a service she believes in.) Gil is next, with 10 years of commitment to helping families and companies secure exactly the insurance they need at Jensen-Sheehan. Gil truly enjoys finding the best insurance solution for each customer's unique needs. Something everyone loves about Gil is his humility and good humor— Once he received a call from a customer who wondered if the extension recently added to the family home was covered under the policy. Gil had known about the addition and updated the policy, so he was able to assure the customer that the policy did indeed cover the addition. Soon thereafter, the customer showed up with a shoebox full of receipts and waited expectantly to be reimbursed(!) Gil patiently (and compassionately) explained that wasn't exactly what "full coverage" meant... Brenda has over 20 years experience in insurance, and has been putting that knowledge to use at Jensen Sheehan for the last 10 years. She's also a devoted wife: in her off time she manages the books for her husband's Millis restaurant. Her most memorable experience so far was the time a landscape maintenance worker focused intently on his shrub trimming just outside the Jensen Sheehan windows. Holliston has a fire station noon whistle that's quite loud and right across the street from Jensen Sheehan. Jana heard the man scream and disappear from the window when the first blast sounded. After awhile he got back to his feet and resumed the pruning without ever looking in the window again... |
